Had breakfast at the African Scottish Mess. Today buried one of the men who had been found deaad in the wood. Artillery lent gun carriage and team and bugler and Union Jack. I had charge of men forming funeral party. Three of teh man’s relatives turned up and from hospital marched behind gun carriage.  I followed with men – Rev. Lamb conducted service and bugler blew Last Post.  One of the relatives said how grateful they were for the way the funeral had been conducted.

Returned and carried on with handing over – handed over Block E, coal and part of Block C.
