Wooley came over to tea – In the evening with Legge (R.E.) and Black (Hawk) went out at 11p.m. to watch a raid arranged for 12. Punctually to time the batteries on Lorrette spur and behind us opened fire on the short length of front selected for the raid. We were about 1000 yards from the front and it was a great sight to see the shells bursting continually along the front. The fire was very intense and lasted about half an hour, when the Londons went over and Bosch line. Later another raid took place on an adjoining length of trench but we didn’t wait to see this.
