During the whole of this last week the bombardment at the front has been very heavy and almost continuous. The Russians have been doing very well in Galicia and Italians have also pushed the Austrians back, and there is a strong impression that the campaign is going strongly in our favour.

Took middle shift – during afternoon the Bosch shelled Carency heavily and coming home I brought the men through the communication trench at the rear entering the valley above Carency.

The Marines who relived us told us the 3rd Filed Co. were leaving for Hersin tomorrow – on getting back to camp found that Wooley and Molly had already gone in advance.

Good news from front this evening – we have advanced very well indeed just north of Arras.
