Heavy showers – Lieuts. Williams and Stewart with party back from English leave came up to camp – men joined us here but officers returned to Hersin. First casualty reported – Sapper Clover who came out with my draft was hit by bullet from machine gun at Aix Noulette and diced before they got him to the ambulance station.

But for the rain this would have been a very pleasant camp but the heavy rains made the wood full of water and the trenches at their worst.
