Took last shift. Bombing and bombardment of Vimy Ridge about 11 p.m. Major Aveling returned from leave.
Took early shift taking working party of 2nd Worcesters – hear that bombardment round Arras is preliminary to general attack – Bombardment started again, roll of guns being continuous. Tremendous artillery fire going on.
Bombardment in south continued all night but died away about 9 a.m. Commenced again in afternoon and raged all night.
Heavy rain till midday – At 2 p.m. very heavy continuous firing commenced to the south of our sector – towards Arras – it is clearly intensive bombardment. From camp could see one of the batteries in action and also see German shells bursting.
Firing continued all the day. In the evening our sector started bombarding German lines but ceased after about half an hour – It was a splendid sight.
Heavy thunderstorm which made trenches as bad as ever. Heavy rain all night.
An early shift – constructing dug outs.
Day off – heard that T.A.B. was in England.
