Today I met Major Harrison and the Adjutant at South Pier and proceeded in the tug to Linini Point to inspect landing stage which we found in good condition -Also an old boat which had bottom stove in, but found it beyond repair. On our return we called at Somali to make enquiries re death of Sapper Harris.

Today  O.O.  Thirty men from the new draft left camp for Imbros under Capt. Marshall.  At noon Lieut. Gould in the Spinet left for Stavros with a quantity of material and plant for pier contstruction.  In the afternoon I took a burial party to hospital and thence to the cemetery by the side of the Greek Church at Portzanos [Portianos] to bury Sapper Harris.  This man was taken ill on the Olympic and on arrival here to the hospital ship Somali in the harbour where he died.  It was a very solemn ceremony in these Eastern surroundings.

Today I was posted in orders as acting O.C. of No. 1 Field Co.
